I will ignore well-regarded artists for strange reasons. I don't like their look, I don't like the name of their band, I don't like what they titled their last work. Strange reasons, but not without logic -- each of those choices helps create an aesthetic. So it was with Cat Power - whose tough pixie persona was never a winning one for me. Then someone sent me the "Lived in Bars" video, and SC put in on her 2006 best of CD. I bought The Greatest. And it is very good. Listen to my favorite song, "The Greatest" (mp3) from the Matador site or check out the video for Lived in Bars, which is a bit twee, but still charming:
It's not Dusty in Memphis, but it sure ain't bad.
